Lil Wayne once said “Shit happens and since I’m the shit I’m who it happens to.” As an artist you should be confident in your work and have the attitude that no one is touching you but still be humble at the same time. Artist Damari Merrick but to his fans he is known as Mari Mix exhibts this in his art.

Mari Mix  is a Chicago native but grew up in between New York and New Jersey. Other than being from Chicago and moving Mari Mix have traveled to many places that helped grow and diversify his love for music. Even though he has been to different places Chicago always reigns number one simply because of the idea that his music can change someone's life especially the youth. Although changing someone’s life may be a drive to keep going Mari Mix is self influenced. It is important to have other influences on your art but that won’t matter if you don’t believe in yourself the way Mari Mix believes in himself. Mari Mix proves that no artist is the same simply because his reason for being self influenced is due to his experiences within his life that allows him to stay true to himself. Other than being self influenced he has people who influenced and encouraged him to rap and those people are; fellow Dojo member Sk Da Sensei, his older brother, and his engineer Fiction Ray.

Before Merrick became Mari Mix he was just a child himself navigating himself through the rap world. Whether it was playing Drake’s album Take Care in the car with his mom or those freestyle sessions with the boys it all led up to the artist he is today. Music to  Mari Mix is a love language that helped him in his time of need. Can you imagine what his music would do for others? Mari Mix project The Butterfly Effect that brings nothing but thought provoking hits. The project starts with “Mile Min” and ends with “Love Me.” You can hear the growth and shift of the project from beginning to end. The Butterfly Effect is a must listen because Mari Mix gives hope that good rap with quality isn’t going down the drain. A Cre8tive must listen is his song “Pace Maker” on The Butterfly Effect it’s a song that as you listen to you catch yourself smiling without realizing it. As you listen to the project you will hear many shoutouts to Dojo. Dojo is a lifestyle and family of artists that Sk Da Sensei came up with and Mari has been with Dojo since the idea was presented to him.

One thing you should have learned so far from Mari is that his music portrays the message of “being the shit”  and loving yourself. If it wasn’t for music and this mentality Mari Mix claims he wouldn’t know where he would be. Being able to do what you love is extremely important and Mari Mix shows that. He also shows that when times get rough or it seems like it isn’t going anywhere that you shouldn’t give up because someone out there is going to see your vision. Mari Mix is an artist that you should watch out for in the future simply because of his confidence and the messages he packs within his songs. To keep up with Mari Mix and watch for his upcoming project Spring Effects you can follow him on instagram @marimix_ and on twitter @marimixedit.
